I have a new light. It’s a headlamp.

My new light is a headlamp.

My brother is an athlete who has traveled and surfed all over the world.

He is staying with us now because someone surfed straight into his leg and broke it, so he’s recovering.

But he still works out every day.

Nothing stops him.

I walk every day and pretty much nothing stops me.

But in the winter it’s dark by 5 o’clock, so I was talking about how I really miss having those extra five hours of light that we have in the summer.

He said, “Well, don’t you have a headlamp?”

I said no.

He said, well, why not?”

I just never thought of it.

So he bought me a headlamp and today I’m walking with my headlamp on.

Suddenly, I’m making my own light.

The darkness falls away with every step I take.

No matter which direction I turn there’s more light in that direction.

It strikes me as such a profound metaphor for who we are and what is possible, and that often more is possible than we realize.

I realized that I can simply turn on my headlamp, my heart lamp, my inner light, and direct it into the darkness.

The darkness became illuminated as I was walking along, watching my light make a path for me through the darkness.

I was also listening to a teaching on the holiday of Hanukkah, which is the holiday of increasing light.

We start in the dark, and we light one candle, and each night we add more light.

I thought, well, there you go; sometimes it takes just a moment of someone seeing you beyond where you see yourself to realize that you can illuminate the path.

You can shine your light into the dark.

You have more potential, possible abilities, and gifts than perhaps you have activated or realized.

I invite you to find your own headlamp, heart lamp, inner light to illuminate the darkness and see that it is possible to see beyond what you thought was hidden in the darkness.
