Why do you want to find and tell your deep stories?
What happens when you do find and tell your deep stories?
Books come into being.
Businesses expand.
Insights long kept inside come out and inspire.
New connections are made.
Sometimes it is the simplest acts of noticing that open up magic and wonder and lead to new stories and insights. Try the exercise below, which you can do right now in 15 minutes to find a new story metaphor to use in your business.
When I began training people to tell stories in their businesses I did not know it would go so deep. But of course it did because that is what I am all about in all areas of my life. I am committed to living my life from that deep, connected and committed place. In fact, this is such a strong commitment that this weekend I am missing two powerful trainings to be home with my family to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
I am sorry to miss them, but it was not a hard decision. Why? Because it is one I had already made and committed to. It goes deep into my being, and what I love and who I am. So when I began my Storyselling business I brought my whole self with me. It is an unfolding process that nourishes the soul, and at the same time supports the development of a vision. Are you bringing your whole self into your business?
What is your vision?
How are your stories connected to your vision?
Try this simple exercise:
- Go outside and begin to walk.
- As you walk look to see 3 things you have never noticed before.
- Then choose one.
- Describe it in detail.
- Ask: How is this like me, like my business, like what I do in the world?
- Then email me the answer.
- If you are not sure how to do this, email me and ask for help.
This is fitness for the metaphor mind. People think in pictures and remember in pictures and feel and act and decide based on emotion which images evoke. So when you hang your message on a metaphor or image it sticks and it inspires. This is a powerful tool, which if you develop it can serve you in a wide range of purposes as you promote your business, write your book, sell your products or transform your life.
This weekend is another Jewish Holiday called Sukkot. (Yes it is a full season for us with one more next week!) Sukkot is a harvest holiday and is called the season of joy. It also tells the story of the Jews traveling in the desert with only small huts for shelter and how they had to trust in God as their ultimate protection. So for this holiday we also build a small hut called a Sukkah and we eat all our meals there for a week and some people even sleep in them. We imagine we are leaving the protection of our homes and trusting in God and the Universe. We live and create stories in this tiny magical world! I invite you into my Sukkah! Here is a picture of it! It is for me like entering into a story and discovering the wonders hidden there. Out of simple materials we make a place of beauty and love and invite others to enter and celebrate with us. So it is with our lives and our work!
Invite the people you serve and inspire into your world of wonder and help them find their way as you find yours!
This is the world of story and its power! I invite you in!
